About Verterra
VERTERRA ENERGY INC is on a mission to harness the power of flowing water in rivers, oceans and canals to produce abundant, reliable power.
Volturnus is a vertical axis turbine that uniquely harnesses the power of flowing water by combining the working principles of centrifugal pumps & hydrofoils with a rugged, hydrodynamic design. Similar to an underwater 3D weather vane, VOLTURNUS works in harmony with the current to dynamically adjust once deployed. When installed in modular arrays, the technology creates scalable, continuous power from small, 100 watt backpack scale, up to multi-MW arrays.
Based in St. Paul, MN Verterra is funded by mission driven investors and a multi-year DoD contract to commercialize the technology for multiple applications.

About the Founder
Ted Christopher | Inventor, Founder, Chief Executive Officer
Ted Christopher is the founder and CEO of Verterra Energy, where he leads the development of rugged, modular hydrokinetic energy systems designed for contested, off-grid, and expeditionary environments. He founded the company in 2010 with a visionary mission: to harness the power of flowing water in rivers, oceans, and canals to provide abundant, reliable energy to the over one billion people worldwide who lack consistent access to electricity.
Under his leadership, Verterra has evolved from a bold concept into a rapidly scaling energy innovation company working in partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Energy and other entities around world.
A self-taught engineer and inventor, Ted brings a rare combination of hands-on design, operational insight, and mission-focused execution. That practical approach continues to drive Verterra’s success today, establishing it at the forefront of energy innovation; re-imagining how to harness the power of flowing water on the planet.
